Invitation to the Queens Borough President's Office High School Fair on September 30th, 2024 at 5 p.m.

The Office of Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards is ecstatic to host the annual High School Fair on Monday, September 30th, 2024 at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center at Queens Borough Hall (120-55 Queens Blvd) from 5- 8 p.m. There will be over 30 schools in attendance. Families can speak to representatives from each school, while staff from the NYC Department of Education will also be present to provide on-site workshops, answer questions, and otherwise help support students and their parents as they navigate the high school admissions process.

Application Form for CEC28 Class Size Committee Membership

Dear District 28 community,

The Community Education Council 28 (CEC 28) created a Class Size Committee with the intention to inform, discuss and work together with different stakeholders in helping implement the Class Size Law in District 28 (D28) in a thoughtful way that doesn't harm any of our students or schools. Our focus is to discuss a way forward. We are not interested in discussing how the Class Size Law could be amended or avoided.

We are planning to have monthly virtual meetings of about 1 hour. The time and date will depend on the availability of most class size committee members.

We are interested to have representatives from D28 schools (elementary and/or middle school principals and/or teachers), D28 students (5th through 8th grade), parents and other important stakeholders such as elected officials or district 28 staff members.

If you have a child currently enrolled in a D28 NYCPS from pre-k through 8th grade and would like to join us doing the work, you can apply here: D28ClassSizeMemberFORM

ANNOUNCEMENT ON METROCARDS

All 7^th and 8^th grade students eligible for MetroCard's will have received them by Fri. Sept 13th.

There is a delay with distribution for 6^th grade students. Please show the letter below to MTA in the meantime.

We apologize for any inconvenience. All 6^th grade students received a hard copy of the letter in AM wellness today Fri Sept 13th.

School Uniform – polo shirt (navy blue or grey), khaki/navy blue/black pants or skirt

binder with dividers

2 Composition notebooks

Black and blue ballpoint pens

No. 2 Pencils

Highlighter

6 Folders

Double strapped over the shoulder book-bag (no rolling bookbags for safety)

**Please note – Teachers may require additional supplies as the year progresses.

RE: School Uniform Policy

Here at Middle School 217Q we have a student dress code policy. The dress code consists of a collared polo shirt (navy blue or grey) with our school logo, and either Navy Blue, Black or Khaki pants.

Girls may choose to wear a navy blue or khaki skirt/skort.

There are many benefits in having our students wear a uniform to school every day:

Promotes a more effective learning environment

Foster's school unity and pride

Improves student performance

Fosters self-esteem

Eliminates label competition

Simplifies the dressing process in the morning

Teaches students appropriate dress and decorum in their “work” place

Help to improve student conduct and discipline

Understanding all the benefits wearing a school uniform lends to our school environment any student who is out of uniform will receive a phone call home to inform the parent and may be subjected to stay for detention.
